Imagining Tina: A Dialogue with Edward Weston

Artist:

Maryam Eisler

The primary focus in the work of Maryam Eisler is the feminine sublime, in all dimensions of being a woman. A play of light and shadow dominates her work as she depicts landscape and space. In this series, she felt drawn to the relationship between Edward Weston and Tina Modotti during their shared adventure in Mexico during the revolution. Eisler was inspired by her visit to Weston’s house and imagined how he gazed at Tina at the height of their relationship, amidst love, passion, and trust. Here, she portrays her as muse, collaborator, companion, and lover; effectively showing her in her many facets, a magnificent woman in her own right.
