La Parisienne is a traveling exhibition that reveals the nostalgia of an era. In it, three photographers attempt to capture the image of the Parisian woman as it has been cemented in our collective imaginary.
A stereotype, a cliché, a vestige, an idea about the women of the “City of Light” and the savoir-faire that characterizes them. A joint discourse by Delmari Romero Keith and François Taborelli that seeks to unravel the essence of that gaze; that fascination with the modern and feminine woman who asserts herself with grace; she who moves between fashion and art, open, sophisticated, uninhibited, subtly hinting at furtive and indifferent glances at the same time, as she unfolds her sinuous and seductive gait.
Many have tried to capture her through their lenses, dressed or half-naked, posing or distracted. From Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, and Doisneau to Helmut Newton, all have manifested an attraction to clarifying the mystery of that feminine archetype.
Although the images in this exhibition are marked by the same obsessions, the artists—Helmut Newton, Patrick Chelli, and Daniel Waks—have managed to represent the paradigm of a woman who rebels and reveals herself, while simultaneously questioning her femininity in the face of the challenges imposed by the 21st century.
