Expanding the Gaze
If art illuminates that which we value in our society, then it is impossible to ignore the paradigm shifts we are experiencing today. In search of a new language, artists from all over the world express their visions—within different conceptual frameworks—regarding the numerous movements transforming the world we live in. As the world changes rapidly, it is fundamental that contemporary art is neither hollow nor mute, but conscious and agile. We must always aspire to expand our gaze.

Vagones Exclusivos
Vagones Exclusivos is a series of portraits created by Dutch artist Charlotte Verweij in the women-only subway carriages in Mexico City. With very few lines, Charlotte captures deeply human and real moments of the women in this city—an image that is often underrepresented in traditional media—while highlighting the feeling of sisterhood among women in this very particular public space.

Representation and empowerment are central themes in Charlotte’s work. While drawing, she uses carbon paper, which allows her to create a copy of each original drawing; subsequently, she gives the original drawing to the women portrayed and keeps the copies for exhibition.
